Food | What is the best way to cook inside a campervan?
A hob is a common place in a small van conversion like the Transporter, useful for heating water for washing or making warm drinks and also for heating food.
We offer 3 main ways of cooking inside your campervan.
(1) Electric (no gas) using a 230v campervan induction hob and or microwave.
Pros: Removes the need to have gas in your van.
Cons: Requires magnetic iron pans.
If you are planning to only do on-grid camping where you have access to an EHU then an induction hob is the simple choice.
However if you want to use the induction hob (or any 230v equipment) off grid then you will require a powerful leisure battery and inverter or, a Clayton Power LPS II power unit. Details of the Clayton Power LPS II can be found here
(2) Underslung LPG tank with externally mounted fill point, this runs a traditional gas hob setup.
Pros: Simple to refill. Has remaining gas content visual gauge.
Cons: Much more expensive cost to install. Requires periodic underbody inspection. Getting more and more difficult to find LPG filling stations. Open flame cooking
(3) A regulated gas cylinder (CampinGaz 907) that is housed in a protective cabinet inside one of your cupboards, again this runs a traditional gas hob setup.
Pros: Easy to maintain, very simple to use.
Cons: Takes valuable cupboard space. Has no visual indicator of remaining gas. Open flame cooking.
Option 1, Electric is in our opinion the best way to warm water up or cook inside a campervan .
